ABOUT KEVIN BOYER

Kevin John Boyer was born on June 9, 1993 in Cleveland, OH just one minute before his twin sister Maggie. The twins joined their two older brothers, Thomas and Mark. The Boyer kids grew up in Cleveland’s West Park neighborhood and attended St. Mark School for K-8.

Growing up, Kevin was always fiercely competitive and loved to play (and win) in any type of game including baseball, basketball, cross country, and track. Little known fact — he also dabbled briefly in the theater, playing a part in The King and I alongside his sister and cousins.

After St. Mark, Kevin attended St. Edward High School where he played basketball all four years. Kevin was a dedicated teammate and leader. He was never the biggest guy on the court but he always played like he was. His undisputed work ethic translated into his first job as a caddy. He was a favorite caddy of many golfers at both Lakewood Country Club and Westwood Country Club.

Throughout high school, Kevin formed many lifelong friendships. The brotherhood of St. Ed’s is something that Kevin truly valued and he often said that St. Ed’s was the best thing to ever happen to him. Kevin graduated from St. Edward High School in 2012 with honors.

Kevin then proceeded to Ohio University. No one has any doubt about Kevin’s love for OU and Athens, OH. He certainly made the best of his time there. He formed many quick friendships and was often the life of the party. Everyone he knew had a “Boyer story”. Despite the fun he had, Kevin continued to study hard for his major in Finance. He made the Dean’s List and graduated from OU in 2016. After graduation, he moved to Columbus, OH and worked for J.P. Morgan Chase as a financial analyst.

Unfortunately, there is another story hidden between the lines of this biography. Throughout his short life Kevin battled an internal struggle with anxiety and depression. Eventually, his demons became too much for him. On December 1, 2016 at the age of 23, Kevin took his own life.

In the wake of his death, there was widespread grief. Kevin touched many lives during his 23 years on Earth and his presence is missed each and every day. In his memory, his family and friends initiated a scholarship fund to benefit St. Edward High School. The Kevin Boyer Memorial Golf Outing was dreamt up on a whim by a group of Kevin’s friends. Through the hard work of these friends, the inaugural golf outing took place on June 17, 2017. The Kevin J. Boyer Scholarship at SEHS was endowed at $50,000 after just 2 years hosting the golf outing! That scholarship will live on in Kevin's memory as we continue this event for years to come and raise money to help others in need!
